Withnail and I

London. The 1960s. Two unemployed actors—acerbic, elegantly wasted (and oh so stylish …)

Danny: “Has he just been busted?”
Marwood: “No.”
Danny: “Then why's he wearing that old suit?”
Withnail: “Old suit! This suit was cut by Hawke's of Savile Row. Just because the best tailoring you've ever seen is above your fucking appendix doesn't mean anything.“

Withnail (Richard E. Grant) and the anxiety-ridden "I" (Paul McGann)—drown their frustrations in booze, pills, and lighter fluid.

We’ll be showing Murray Close’s iconic behind the scenes photographs with a physical display of some of the Murray’s prints (Oh, and you might just get a postcard from Murray too!)

Paul Smith has a direct link with Withnail which we’ll tell you about on the night …

Withnail and I is suitably stylish film from designer Andrea Galer’s iconic coat - which we’ll have an example of for you to look at at the sceening (Andrea was the wardrobe assistant on Hail The New Puritan which we showed at All is Joy last year) to Marwood’s boiled wool jumper, leather coat and matinee idol fedora the costumes are as piss elegant (in an aristocratically moth eaten way) as Withnail and Marwood are pissed …

When Withnail's Uncle Monty (Richard Griffiths) offers his cottage, they escape the squalor of their flat for a week in the country. They soon realize they’ve gone on holiday by mistake when their wits—and friendship—are sorely tested by violent downpours, less than hospitable locals, and empty cupboards. An intelligent, superbly acted, and hilarious film, Bruce Robinson’s semi-autobiographical cult favourite is laugh out loud funny…
