This film was written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The cast includes Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes, Candela Peña, Antonia San Juan, Penélope Cruz and Rosa Maria Sardà. The film tells the story of Manuela (Cecilia Roth), a nurse who oversees organ transplants in a hospital in Madrid, and who is a single mother to a teenage boy, Esteban (Eloy Azorín). Esteban is killed by a car whilst trying to get an autograph from actress Huma Rojo (Marisa Paredes). Manuela feels the need to return to Barcelona, where she hopes to find her ex-husband and father of Esteban, a transvestite woman. Esteban, although curious about his father, never knew who he was. Likewise, his father didn't know of his existence, as Manuela ran away when she found out she was pregnant.
